Mérite Single Vineyard Wrattonbully Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
Colleen and Mike of Mérite had been grape-growers for a number of years before it began to be noticed that their merlot in particular offered something incredibly special. As it became clear that from their humble beginnings had come unique and pristine fruit, they decided to start bottling some themselves and labelled it Mérite, believing these grapes deserved merit for their high quality. This is classic, silky and plush cabernet sauvignon, with 4% merlot blended in. The nose shows cassis and blackcurrant crumble notes, leading to a luxurious, fresh, juicy and full palate. Deliciously succulent grape tannins counter the freshness nicely, impressive stuff which offers great value given that the grapes could otherwise be sold to make far more premium wines under another winery's label.
